Midvale City 2025
Mayoral and City Council Elections

Rainer Lilbok

Running for City Council
District 4

Rainer Lilbok

Here are the questions that Living In Midvale asked the candidate. As soon as the candidate answers the questions, we'll post those too.

Rainer,

Public Safety:

  • How can we help build “patriotism and trust” in our neighborhoods?
  • What can be done to create “community engagement” and what does the “community engagement” look like to you?

Police:

  • You said that “we need more trust between residents and police”, how do you feel that can be accomplished?

Homelessness:

  • Why do you think having our own Road Home facility will help?
  • What help do you think we need from the county to help the “single people”?

Growth:

  • What is it that you support about the growth in Bingham Junction and is that something we should support in other areas, if so, where?
  • Where would you like to see a new Recreation Center and/or Library in Midvale?

Money:

  • What have you seen that has caused you to notice that the “Harvest Days participation has gone down” and how would you “prioritize” building it back up?
  • You said that city employees need a “competitive pay”, but when you look at transparent.utah.gov, you can see that most employees at Midvale City are already paid more than their counterparts in much larger cities around the valley and the rest of Utah, despite being the smallest city in the Salt Lake Valley; why do you think their pay isn’t already “competitive”?

Property Tax:

  • “Buy local” has become a common phrase, what do you see in Midvale as great “buy local” resources?
  • We’ve been told that the Midvale budget is already “as fiscally lean as possible”, so what do you see that we need to be more “fiscally responsible” on?

Housing Affordability:

  • What needs to change on the “supply and demand” for housing in Midvale to make it so that we can accommodate the growth, but not be crowding ourselves with high density housing?

ICE:

  • ICE has been a hot topic and according to what we’ve found, ICE hasn’t been a big issue in Midvale, and you said that you don’t support ICE, why?
  • Wouldn’t it be better to use the resources of the UPD to work with ICE to help them find the murders, rapists, drug/human traffickers, etc, instead of them going off of what limited info they may have and accidentally arresting those they weren’t intending to go after and causing fear for residents?

Events and Activities:

  • You said that Midvale has a “cultural history of movie making here”, so what can we do to help continue supporting movie making here and use that to our advantage to draw people here?
  • What can be done to “improve Harvest Days” and get it back to an event that everyone talks about, like it used to be?

City Outreach:

  • You support social media, but you feel that we need more “civic engagement”; how do you see that being accomplished?
  • You also said that “disgruntled residents…don’t want to participate in Midvale activities and we need a more responsive government, because the residents are the tax payers”, how do you suggest that the government become more “responsive”?

Favorite Part of Midvale:

  • What is it about the Jordan River Trail and the Library that makes them some of your favorite parts of Midvale?
  • What other things do you enjoy about Midvale?

Other:

  • If you don’t get elected as City Council, what will you do to help make Midvale a better place?
  • Is there anything else you would like the residents of Midvale to know about you or your plans if you don’t get elected to City Council?
