Midvale City 2025
Mayoral and City Council Elections

Jamie Steverson

Running for City Council
District 5

Jamie Steverson

Here are the questions that Living In Midvale asked the candidate. As soon as the candidate answers the questions, we'll post those too.

Jamie,

Public Safety:

  • What “after school programs” do you feel that Midvale needs?

Police:

  • Our police department is asked to do many things, what things do you feel they are asked to do that they may not be “trained” for and how can we resolve that?

Homelessness:

  • What does Midvale need to do to address the homelessness issue in our city?

Growth:

  • How can Midvale be made a more “walkable city”?

Money:

  • Why do you feel like Midvale needs a “budget increase” so the City Council salary can be increased, but when you look at transparent.utah.gov, you can see that the City Council in Midvale City already get paid more than their counterparts in much larger cities around the valley and the rest of Utah, despite Midvale being the smallest city in the Salt Lake Valley.
  • Many small businesses are already suffering, and most businesses in Midvale are small businesses, so how do you think that doubling the sales tax on businesses will help?

Property Tax:

  • What “break” would you like to give businesses to “entice them to be here”?
  • What else can we do to “grow our sales tax base”?
  • Midvale is already pretty full and in need of housing, where can we put more “shoppable areas”?

Housing Affordability:

  • How can we help “keep rent affordable in high density housing”?

ICE:

  • ICE has been a hot topic and according to what we’ve found, ICE hasn’t been a big issue in Midvale, and you said that you don’t support ICE, why?
  • You said that ICE “shouldn’t be able to wear masks”. If that’s the case, should rioters be required to show their faces too?
  • Wouldn’t it be better to use the resources of the UPD to work with ICE to help them find the murders, rapists, drug/human traffickers, etc, instead of them going off of what limited info they may have and accidentally arresting those they weren’t intending to go after and causing fear for residents?

Events and Activities:

  • You said that “people don’t know about all the events that Midvale has”, so how do you propose that we get the word out so that our events can be better attended?
  • What “east vs west issues” have you seen and how can that be resolved?
  • What can be done to make Harvest Days better advertised?
  • You would like Midvale to “partner with local musical artists”; what do you define as “local” and what events would you like to see them at?

City Outreach:

  • What “billboards” do you feel that Midvale needs to be using to help get the word out regarding events and other information for the residents?
  • How can Midvale work with “schools and community groups” to “spread the word”?

Favorite Part of Midvale:

  • What is it about the Jordan River Trail that makes it one of your favorite parts of Midvale?
  • What other things do you enjoy about Midvale?

Other:

  • If you don’t get elected as City Council, what will you do to help make Midvale a better place?
  • Is there anything else you would like the residents of Midvale to know about you or your plans if you don’t get elected to City Council?
